2016 marked the second run of the popular Mayad Academy workshop, proudly hosted by Sony Singapore. Through the help of a talented team from Mayad Academy, participants learnt the skills and techniques required to become successful wedding videographers in today’s ever changing wedding videography landscape.

Let us jump into the highlights of the three-day workshop and find out more about the exciting journey the participants went through.

Crew members arrived by 8am to ensure all goodie bags and equipment for loan were ready for participants, who started arriving from as early as 8:30am!

The look on participants’ faces revealed their excitement and eagerness to pick up new skills at the workshop. This was especially apparent when they were collecting the much-talked about Mayad Academy goodie bags and testing out camera bodies and lenses that were loaned to them for the workshop.

The most intense day of the workshop saw participants getting prepared for an outdoor shoot challenge with models engaged to simulate an actual pre-wedding video shoot.

The day started with an immersive advanced class in directing a pre-wedding shoot, conducted by Carmela Dy Hubag from Mayad Studios. Carmela wowed participants with a practical session that showcased the importance of timing and lighting in setting the right mood.

After a sumptuous lunch buffet, participants and models were transported to HortPark. There, participants utilised their directing skills, honed by hours of training by Mayad Academy, to create their own masterpieces.

The day ended at Sony Store, 313@somerset, where participants were briefed on the third day’s itinerary.

An editing challenge was held on the final day of the workshop, where individual participants created and edited videos of their own.

This was followed by a critique session by Mayad Academy, where the top finalists were recognised for their outstanding work.

To conclude the workshop, participants were treated to an international seafood buffet held at Makan@Jen. There, they mingled and bonded over their shared experiences over the past three days.

The finale was a closing ceremony where participants received their Certificate of Attendance from Mayad and the top three finalists were announced and presented with prizes.

Congratulations to Jamie Tan for winning the top prize of a Sony ILCE-7SM2 camera!
